Frogtown Feature Wins for Mantha, Bisonnette, Swamp, Ladoceur and
Bergeron
HOGANSBURG, NY..7/5/97...Peter Mantha, Jr. found his groove to triumph over a
field of 27 modifieds at Frogtown Speedway for the Cedar View Golf
Club - S & S Smoke Shop sponsored holiday weekend event. Mantha
started 9th and took over the lead early in the race.
Billy King started on the pole and kept the lead through 2 cautions.
The first caution caught Ovide Doiron and Mike Perrotte coming
together on the outside of turn 2 on lap 3. Brian Herne caused the
second caution on lap 4 going end over end on the backstretch. Herne
was shaken but checked out okay. His car was not so lucky.
Mantha made his move on lap 6 going to the inside of King. King held
on to second holding off Jeff Fullerton and then losing to Roy Tarbell
on lap 16. Tarbell picked up about 1 position per lap moving up from
17th starting spot. King had to settle for third. Barry Poitras
followed Tarbell up from the back to finish fourth. Rob Winters held
his own starting and finishing 5th.
Tarbell shortened the gap on points leader Leon Gonyo who finished
9th. Tarbell was only 9 points behind.
Dave Bisonnette won his third feature event of the season over a field
of 24 late models. John Green took over the lead from Joey Ladoceur
on the start and held on until a lap 7 caution and restart.
Bisonnette powered ahead on the restart and never looked back.
Denis Gavreau (#2), a newcomer to Frogtown, caught the treacherous
turn 4 groove and went over landing on his roof causing the fourth
caution of that event. Gavreau emerged with minor injuries. The
"other" Denis Gavreau (#72) moved way up from 18th starting position
to overtake second place Mike Allen on lap 10. He made several
charges on Bisonnette but couldn't get by. Daryl Steele moved up 12
positions to finish third.
Jody Swamp took the checkers for his second feature win in the Novice
division. Swamp went to the outside of the backstretch to pass Scott
Brainard for the lead. Duane Brainard and Louie Jackson traded off
for 2nd and 3rd positions. Jackson finally came out ahead on lap 7
when Brainard got high on the outside of turn 4. Steve Young followed
Brainard to finish 3rd.
Lee Ladoceur won another feature in the Rookie feature. He started
third and took over the lead by lap 3. Robert Dicare had settled in
to second position when he went high on the outside of turn 2 and
Simon Marcoux took over.
Alain Bergeron was victorious over the field of 11 mini sprints.
Bergeron flew by leader Jeff Malboeuf on lap 4. He got caught in
lapped traffic on lap 11 and lost the lead to Bruce Talley. Talley
only enjoyed one lap in the lead before Bergeron again took over.
Talley ended up second and Gaetan Dufresne was third.
