Randy Haynes Joins

Ron Ford and Gary Roberts in ARP Winners' Circle

On a beautiful Friday evening Ron Ford picked up his second feature win of the year; Gary Roberts took his third checkered in the Street Stocks; and Randy Haynes won his first Four Cylinder Street Stock feature, after Gary Smith was disqualified in a post-race inspec- tion.

Darrin Schuler jumped out to the early lead in the 358 Modified- Sportsman main, but that was short lived as he slowed and pitted giving Earl Walrath the top spot. On the fourth lap Ron Ford slipped under Chuck Kennison and J.R. Hurlburt going down the back chute to move into third with kennison close behind in fourth.

On an eighth lap restart Ford moved by second running Dave Rosa and leader Earl Walrath to take over first. As the number 7 started to pull away, Kennison started weaving through Rosa and Walrath to move into the second spot and began to reel in the leader.

After a caution for Dave Rosa slowing on the back stretch, Ford, Kennison and Mike Clapperton began to battle for the lead. Kennison was able to pull the 9X next to Ford on a couple of occasions but the Ford powered Olsen was able to get enough bit to hold off Kennison's challenges. At the finish it was Ford, Kennison, Clapperton, Mitch Gibbs, and Wink Hinkley.

Gary Roberts made his return to victory lane in the Street Stock feature. Taking the lead on a first lap restart, Roberts never relinquished the top spot in cruising to his third win of the year. Al MacRabie moved into second when Denny Smith spun out coming out of turn four. Les Streeter drove by Jerry Northrup to take third with Gary Card finishing fifth.

Gary Smith was the first car across the line in the Four Cylinder Street Stock feature but a post-race protest found the 7UP illegal and Randy Haynes picked up his first win.

The early laps saw Joe Winans, Dave Jaindle and Harold Humphrey take turns leading. Randy Haynes pulled the 8X into the lead on a lap four restart. He held the lead until Jake Slack took over on a seventh lap restart, Garry Smith followed him by Haynes and the point leaders started the run for the lead. Smith took the lead on the eleventh lap and Slack pitted on the next circuit putting Haynes back in what would turn out to be the winning position; John Kostbar, Mike Oliver, Rich Rought and Paul Miller followed across the line.
