LANCE YONGE WINS AT DUNDEE RACEWAY PARK
Lance Yonge racing out of Penn Yan, NY notched his third
I win of the season last Friday in the DIRT 320 Modified
National Auto Supply Syracuse Qualifier, at Dundee Raceway
Park. It was Polmanteer's Mobil Night, with a packed gran-
dstand and over 75 race teams lining pit road. Yonge put is potent Johnson Farms-Lanes Yamaha Show Car in the top spot in the initial five laps and never looked back. Bath speedster Lin Hough put his Bath Plumbing & Hardware-Jackson and Johnson mount in contention as he pulled to Yonge's rear nerf bar near the halfway mark. This duo went the distance with Hough looking for a mistake from the Penn Yan pilot. That mistake never materialized as Yonge took starter Jay Drinkwater's checkered flag with a car length edge over Hough. Lin Hough will, along with Lance Yonge, represent Dundee Raceway Park at Syracuse in October, as Lance had a victory in June's National Auto Supply event.
Waterloo's Walt Mitchell did a fine job racing from the back of the pack to put his Johnson Logging-Liberty Cafre-Mitchel Motors Birosh racer in the third slot in the 30 lap main. Roun- ding out the top five were Andover, Ny star Curt VanPelt and Penn Yans John Moravec. Heats in 320 modified racing were Eldon Jensen, and Dale Planck.
Gary Stage of Ithaca picked up his initial win of the '87 cam- paign in the 4-cylinder modified 20 lap headliner. Stage dogged Stanley's Bruce Detro and took the top spot with six laps remaining. Detro blew an engine bringing out the yellow with two laps left putting last weeks winner Mike Latta on Stage's rear crash bar. The restart saw Stage keep his cool to recorhis first '87 victory. Rounding out the top five were Latta, Dick Smith, Mike Castner and Rick Willsey. Heats in 4- Cylinder Modified racing went to Latta and Smith.
Roger Kerrick added his name to the list of new winners as he took the 20 lap street stock feature. Kerrick raced to the front and was never headed the entire distance, with Gene Sharpsteen pressuring him in the final five laps. Rounding out the top five were Les Smith of Painted Post, Dave Fultz of Himrod, and Randy Ruiz. Heats in Street Stock racing went to Fultz, Kerrick, and Harold Neiss, with the consi going to Lace Decker.
This Friday night will mark the return of Mal Lane and ESS to Dundee. An important change in the schedule show all regular classes racing along with Sprints. The 4-Cylinders will be in action contrary to this weeks Dundee Press release. SUMMARY
