Ogden, Lippert and Reid Among New Hidden Valley Winners

August 11, 2024

Clearfield, PA - The Third Annual Rumble in the Valley by Phillips Motorsports was held Sunday at Hidden Valley Speedway with a smaller than anticipated car count due to the inclement weather forcing the race to be held on Sunday instead of Friday and Saturday.

The winners of the Vintage Open Modified feature was Andy Cassell of Boyertown, Scott Peters of Laceyville won the Vintage Sportsman Modified feature while Les Scrivens of Dove picked up the win in the Vintage OEM Stock Cars.

In the regular divisions, due to the race being a non-point event, and on a Sunday, the counts were also down, but four new winners graced victory lane, including: Brad Benton of Duncansville in the Semi Lates, Trent Ogden of Curwensville in the Small Block Modifieds, Ryan Lippert of Clearfield in the Little’s Drive In Four Cylinders and Draven Reid of Punxsutawney in the Junior Four Cylinders. Brandon Connor of Penfield was the lone repeat winner in the Penn-Ohio Pro Stock/Pure Stock feature, as the two classes opted to just run a feature together.

Craig Bainey and Brad Benton sat on the front row of the Semi Late Feature, with Benton taking the lead and setting the pace with Bainey in second. The race saw two quick cautions for minor spins, with Benton leading the entire 20 laps and Bainey riding second. At the finish Josh Henry came home third and Ron Laubscher was fourth. Bainey won the lone heat.

Trent Ogden led the Small Block Modified feature from start to finish as Jeremy Beichner ran second and that’s how they finished. Ogden also won the heat. It was Trents first win of the season.

The Penn-Ohio Pro Stocks and Pure Stocks decided they would run just a feature and would race together and Brandon Connor led from green to Sam McClellan’s double checkered flags for the win. Penn-Ohio driver Cregen Brady was second followed by Pure Stocks Eric Lucas and Time Steis. There was no heat.

Luke Hoffner and John Brown led the Little’s Drive In Four Cylinders to the start, with Hoffner leading most of the first lap, but he got a flat while exiting turn four and gave the lead to Brown, who was setting the pace until lap two, when the yellow flew. On the restart, Hoffner was able to rejoin the field on the same lap, with Ryan Lippert now in second from his sixth place start. When McClellan waved the green, Brown was still leading, but Lippert was all over him, throwing everything he had at the leader, then while working turns one and two on lap six, Brown got high and Lippert took advantage and took the lead out of the second turn. He led at the line and Brown was now a close second, but when those double checkered flags flew, it was all Lippert, picking up his first career feature win ever. Brown was second over Allen Robison, Josh Norton and Hunter Flook. Hoffner and Brown split heat wins.

The vintage teams were in the spotlight for their weekend of action that got condensed into a one day show.

The Vintage Open Modifieds were first with Andy Cassell and Kevin Mahoney on the front row, with Cassell taking the lead and going the distance for the win in the non-stop event. Mahoney was second with Wally Stock, #31 and Tim Beatty. Cassell and Mahoney split the heat races.

The Vintage Sportsman Modified feature saw Bob Alcorn and Scott Peters on the front row, with Alcorn taking the lead. Three cautions slowed the race, including the first caution by leader Alcorn, who lost a wheel. He was out of the race while Peters assumed the lead. Peters sat through two more yellows before taking the win. Dave Phillips was the the driver to finish. Terry Peters, Nick Hesson and Alcorn completed the top five. Alcorn won both heats.

The Vintage OEM Stock Cars were next with Les Scrivens beating Mark Clark off the front row at the start and he led from flag to flag sitting through only one caution. At the finish line the top five were: Scrivens, Brian Lederhouse, Ian Whitcombe, Hunter Whitcombe and Clark. Scrivens and Ronald Ramsey won the heats.

Blake Little led the opening lap of the Junior Four Cylinder feature before he got high in turn four and Draven Reid took the lead. Once out front, Reid never looked back as he went on to get his first ever HVS feature win. Little was second and Miley Hynd was third.
