TIM MCCREADIE OPENS THUNDER ALLEY SPEEDPARK WITH SUPER DIRT SERIES WIN
EVANS MILLS, NY...Tim McCreadie survived an early race spin and rough track conditions to score a win as Caprara's Thunder Alley Speedpark opened its doors with the third round of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series.
After a poor qualifying effort, McCreadie earned his spot in the field through the consolation race and began the 100-lap Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series event in the 21st position. Vic Coffey took off from the pole to lead the first 22 laps, surrendering the lead to Chad Brachman on lap 23. McCreadie worked his way into the top ten by the one quarter mark of the feature, but a spin in turn four made him start his charge again.
Brachman had a battle with Tim Fuller for the lead, with Fuller taking the top spot on lap 31 while Steve Poirier and Alan Johnson were making their way towards the front. The rough track conditions began to take hteir toll, with several contenders dropping by the wayside after strong showings early in the race, including Brett Hearn, Kenny Tremont, Steve Paine, and Brachman.
Fuller and Dale Planck traded the lead back and forth with Fuller taking the top spot back until lap 46. Alan Johnson took his turn at the point till halfway, when McCreadie completed his second charge through the field to take the top spot for good.
Gary Tomkins and Billy Decker were able to move up by avoiding the ruts and through attrition in the field to take second and third when the checkers fell. Fourth spot went to Matt Sheppard with Chuck Bower rounding out the top five.
The 20-lap IMCA Modified feature saw Shawn Lias step into the lead from his fifth starting position and open up a good lead that he held to the finish. Dale Caswell and Neil Edgar battled for second and third till the end, coming across the line in that order. John Mason and Chris Thurston rounded out the top five.
The Sportsman feature was shortened due to the track conditions, with Chad Phelps holding off Shawn Donath in a one lap shootout at the end to claim the victory. Lance Willix, Jim Kite, and Terry Knoblauch completed the top five.
Jordan Keruskie was the winner in the Junior Modified Lite main event, beating Joe Abbas and Taylor Caprara.
Next Thursday night, racing action continues at Caprara's Thunder Alley Speedpark with the DIRT Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, IMCA Modifieds, and Junior Modified Lites. The Dwarf cars will also make their first appearance of 2004. Gates will open at 5 p.m. and racing will start at 7 p.m.
