GRAHAM GORMAN BREAKS THE ICE AT EDELWEISS SPEEDWAY
Graham Gorman finally broke the ice last Friday night at Edelweiss Speedway before another large crowd by winning his first race in two years at the Val des Monts oval.
The Embrun Ont. driver took the lead early after he saw young Pat Cashman who was granted the pole position, lose control of his vehicle for the second time in as many weeks after completing the first lap. Billy Cook and Greg Monica were implicated in a crash trying to clear Cashman’s car, Monica had to return to pit lane as Cook went on to complete the race with a pretty well damaged car.
Gorman finally survived a late challenge by Brian ‘’Slim’’ McDonald who made another remarkable return at Edelweiss. Aggressive Dan Jalbert who had previously won a qualifying heat, settled for third best in the 30 laps feature.
Stephane Lebrun who managed only one win last season, took the checkered flag in the Pro Stock category. The Gatineau driver finished on top of Cornwall Motor Speedway promoter, Ron Morin and last year’s champion Eric Gauvreau who rounded out the fast three. Alain Coursol of Mont-Laurier and Mitchell Jock of Cornwall each had previously won a leg of the qualifying heats. In order to satisfy DIRT requirements the Late Model class now becomes the pro Stock class.
Dominic ‘’Short Fuse’’ Gauvreau took over where he left off last week by returning to the winner’s circle after a late charge in the eight cylinders class. Gauvreau took the lead after second place finisher Tammy Jalbert lost temporarily control in the last lap of the feature. Veteran Dave Noganosh of Wakefield crossed the finish line in third place.
Carl Soucy was on top of the ten cars field when flagman Steve Salvas waived the checkered flag in the four cylinders class. Jackie St-Arnaud who had previously won a qualifying heat and Ryan Foley of Wakefield were following as second and third best in the twelve laps affair.
We will be presenting another full program at Edelweiss Speedway, Friday night May 31. It will be photos and autographs night and the green flag will drop at 7:45
