PETE BICKNELL, STEWART FRIESEN, DAVE SCHULZ, DAVE NICHOLS, AND ROGER ISRAEL
COLLECT FEATURE WINS LAST FRIDAY AT RANSOMVILLE
Pete Bicknell of St. Catharines, Ont captured the fifty lap 358 Mighty Taco Modified special last Friday night. Presented by Labatts and the FOAR Score fan club, Bicknell took the lead on lap seventeen aboard the fifty lap event and never looked back, winning by a large margin. Johnson took the runner up spot away from Chad Brachmann on lap 45. Brachmann held on for third followed by Coffey and Krull.
Robbie Krull led the field to the green flag, taking the lead. Krull would continue to show the fast way around the 1/2 mile dirt oval before Bicknell took over the top spot on lap seventeen. Bicknell quickly distanced himself from the remainder of the field while Brachmann moved in to challenge Krull. These two put on a great side by side race while Johnson and Vic Coffey closed the distance. By lap 33, Brachmann, Krull, and Johnson were running nose to tail. On lap 34, Johnson moved into third and set his sights on rookie sensation Brachmann. Meanwhile, Bicknell was enjoying a full straight away lead. The event would go caution free the remaining laps, with Bicknell capturing his first of the season at the big "R".
Stewart Friesen of Niagara on the Lake, Ont captured the twenty lap DIRT Sportsman feature win last Friday night aboard Randy Chrysler‘s back-up car. Friesen used a last lap move to the inside of Scott George coming off turn four to take the lead and the win. George finished a close second followed by Rob Kott, Boyd MacTavish and Dave Just.
At the drop of the green it was John Hagerman leading lap one before Rob Winters took over on lap two. From there, Winters showed the way until lap five when George moved ahead. Jeff McGinnis had a great run going and had moved up to second but heavy smoked appeared late in the event forcing him pitside. Unfortunately for McGinnis, he also lost the points lead. George maintained the top position until the final lap when Friesen made his move and went on to victory. Heat winners were Dan Lacey and Winters.
Dave Schulz and Scott Kerwin put on a great show for the fans as they exchanged the lead several times in the final six circuits before Schulz moved in front and captured the win aboard the Ransomville NAPA Pro Stock division. Once again, this class continued to dazzle fans as some of the closest racing action is seen week in and week out. The action was hot and heavy for third as well as Roger Chrysler and Pete Stefanski came across the line side by side for third with Chrysler taking the spot. Stefanski was fourth followed by Jeff Martin. Heat winners were Dave Schulz and John Panattoni.
Roger Israel of Ransomville, NY captured the win aboard the second Fish’s Automotive Streetstock fifteen lap feature by a very narrow margin over teenage driver Digger Lester. Lester hounded Israel for several circuits before ducking to the bottom on the final go-round setting up a photo finish for the win. Israel held off Lester by just a bumper at the line. Don Barnes came home in third followed by Cory Sawyer and Wayne Close. In the early going, the front was not the place to be as both Tim Herriven and Kirk Tuttle both lost power while leading.
Dave Nichols won his first of the season aboard the second Fish’s Automotive Streetstock feature event. A great battle raged in the closing laps between Nichols, Ken Washburn and Jerry Condren with Nichols hanging on for the win. Washburn came home in second followed by Condren, Dave Eaton, and Dan Baughman. Heat winners were Kirk Tuttle, Ben Hornquist, and Dave Nichols. Making his first start of the season was Joe Rickard.
