DECKER HOT ON A COOL NIGHT AT BREWERTON SPEEDWAY
BREWERTON, NY…Defending Brewerton Speedway DIRT Big Block Modified Track Champion Billy Decker scored his first 35-lap feature win of the season last Friday night. Decker held the hot hand over a very talented field, on a cool night, at the D-shaped DIRT Demon. The win for the Ross Motorsports team was worth $1,700.
Decker jumped out to the early lead at the start of the DIRT Modified main event from the pole starting position. After five laps Decker was being chased in the top five by Tony Buffa, Tom Juhl, Chuck Hebing and Frank Doll Jr. Decker took advantage of his up front starting position after his poor finish in the season opener. Decker looked to open up his lead, while several top drivers were attempting to move to the front.
Chuck Hebing was able to run down and catch up to Decker near the halfway point of the race. But, it was more lapped traffic that allowed Decker to open up his lead once again. Hebing was able to close the gap in the final laps, but he ran out of time. Hebing had to settle for a solid second place finish behind Decker. Steve Hulsizer recorded his second strong finish of the season at Brewerton with a third place effort.
Opening night feature winner Chuck Bower had to settle for fourth. Tim McCreadie completed the top five feature finishers in the very talented field. Alan Johnson, Tom Juhl, Bob McCreadie, Jimmy Phelps and Bobby Varin finished in positions sixth through tenth respectively. Frankie Caprara and Scott Prentice finished just out of the top ten and were the only other cars to finish in the lead lap in a race that featured several long green flag periods.
Sean Lias won his second straight IMCA Modified feature of the season last Friday night. Lias won out over Mike Chilson, Ron Root, Bill Anderson Sr. and Joe Price. Root led the opening seven laps of the main event. Lias took over on lap eight and led the rest of the way in the 20-lap affair.
Darren Forbes claimed the win in the 20-lap Dwarf Car main event. Forbes won out over Steve Miller, Ken Gamlen, Tim Burdick and Shawn Hort. Forbes led the opening four laps of the feature before Miller took command on lap five. Forbes regained the lead on lap eight and led the rest of 20-lap distance.
Russ Cusson was the winner of the Four Cylinder Stock feature race. The win, by the 68 year-old drivers, was a very popular one. Harvey Calkins Jr., Jeff Herbert, Jeremy Bargabos and Roger West completed the top five finishers. Cusson led the entire 15-lap distance.
Jim Wallace claimed the win in the opening Four Cylinder Enduro feature of the year. Sam Curcie, Jerry Curcie Sr., followed Wallace, Dave Hunt and Terry Scheirer.
Ron Root was the winner of the Magee Trailer Sales IMCA Modified High and Low Dash for Cash. Sean Lias, Tony Finch, Joe Price, Rich Riggs and Rob Keller followed Root.
