Howard still Hot, Lewis Lightning Fast at Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (JULY 30, 2005) -- Defending Modified Track Champion, Duane Howard of Oley, PA and Upper Black Eddy, PA's Trevor Lewis split a pair of exciting 25 lap feature events as MSP Equipment Rentals presented an exciting night of Mighty Big Block Modifieds and the Winged Warriors of the United Racing Club, in front of a packed house at the Bridgeport Speedway.

"This place is a lot of fun to race at, especially when there is as many grooves as we had tonight," Howard boasted of the track conditions, as well as, the three and four wide racing.

Steve Durand and Don Barone put on a great battle in the early stages of the 20 lap feature event, slicing and dicing up front while two, three and even four wide battles were seen through the remainder of the field. Howard was a man on a mission, motoring past Durand and focusing in on the bumper of Barone, after only nine circuits around the famed five-eighth mile speedway. While Howard moved to the front "The Doctor" Danny Johnson, who started just one spot behind the Big Springs Car Wash #126, shuffled his way through the pack picking off one and sometimes two cars a lap. A lap 18 caution, one of only two in the event, stacked the field and gave Howard and Johnson the opportunity to pounce on Barone entering into turn 1. The J&J Shop #27 powered around the top while the Defending Champion eased around the bottom, splitting the #267 Century Tube Teo of Barone. A yellow on lap 22 set up a three lap battle to the finish - Howard rim riding on the top and Johnson scooting around the bottom as Jimmy Chester and Steve Durand closed in making it a four car battle for the win, but it was Howard holding them off at the checkered flag. Johnson settled for second, Jimmy Chester came home third, Steve Durand came home fourth and Don Barone finished in fifth

Trevor Lewis continued his Bridgeport Speedway hot streak picking up another victory in the URC Sprint Cars only appearance at the Bridgeport Speedway. Lewis grabbed the lead from Chris Coyle on lap 19 of the 25 lap feature event. The three Sprint Superstars battled side-by-side and nose to tail for the remainder of the feature event but it was all Lewis at the line. Dave Ely came home second, Chris Coyle finished third, former Modified and Jasper Sprint Car hot shoe Mark Bitner came home in fourth, with Curt Michael crossing the line in fifth.

Blue Anchor, NJ's Mark Forte Jr. picked up his second win of the season, in the 20 lap Sportsman event, after apparent winner Kevin Collins came up light at the scales. Forte Jr. sailed around the high side of the speedway battling with, fellow JD3Graphics Young Guns, Rob Pierce and "The Stockton Stalker" Sean Carman. Pierce and Carman would settle for second and third respectively, Ron Roberts came home in fourth and Drew Ricco came home fifth, giving the Young Guns four of the top five spots.

Gary Klimgczak brought the Cream Ridge Golf Course #11 into Victory Lane in the 20 lap Outlaw Stock feature event. Klimgczak held of Point Leader Pat Conaway and edged the Conaway Trucking #US2 at the line by just 2/10th of a second. Ken Watson came home in third, Joe Trumbetti rolled into fourth and Rich Reider crossed the line in fifth.
