Tucker gets season on track with win at the BOS

BROCKVILLE-The second year jinx has been very much in effect for 2001 Modified Rookie of the Year Ben Tucker. The Redwood NY driver has been beset by mechanical problems and DNF’s so far this year. All that came to an end on Friday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway.

Tucker led all 30 laps to take the Modified feature at the fast quarter mile oval holding off Stephane LaFrance all the way. The biggest challenge for Tucker was being on his toes for the numerous restarts as drivers dealt with a tricky clay surface. Lee Gill recovered from spinning off the oval twice himself to finish third. Mark Hitchcock and Quebec invader David Hebert rounded out the top 5.

Kyle Wilson was one of the few Sportsman drivers to stay clear of accidents and mishaps and parlayed that in a win in the 20 lap main event. John Mulder was second with Randy Earl, Tim Alton and Adam Moore making up the rest of the fast five.

Kees VanWinden vaulted into the points lead in the Novice division with his third feature win in the last two weeks at Brockville. Van Winden and Shawn Hodge battled lap after lap with VanWinden finally taking the lead with 5 remaining. Charles Barkley was third followed by Roger Bushey and Dave Austin.

The Rookie event was also survival of the fittest. Don Hall got the victory when the first and second place car came together in turn 1 just past the midway point. Glen Dorie was a distant second with Brad Kirkland third.

The BOS returns to action next Friday night with a full race program including a Syracuse Qualifying event for the Modifieds. The green flag drops at 7:30.
