THREE NEW FACES IN VICTORY LANE AT THE BOS
BROCKVILLE-There were some fresh faces in victory lane on Friday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway. Florida’s Jeff Vandusen scored his first ever win in the Empire Super Sprints. Kingston pilot Todd Stewart recorded his first win in a couple of years in the Modified division and Elgin’s Adam Moore made the move of the night to win his first of 2002 in the Sportsman feature.
VanDusen started on the pole in the 20 lap ESS main event before a near capacity crowd at the fast quarter mile oval. He quickly jumped into the top spot and led all the way despite a late caution that bunched the field in the final four laps. Local favorite Rick Wilson started 16th in the race and had worked himself up as high as 7th before going too high in turn 3 and giving up a number of positions.
Stewart had a little tougher road to victory lane. Stephane LaFrance sped off into a full straightaway advantage. Stewart kept chipping away after moving into second spot finally catching LaFrance in the final third of the 30 lap race. He passed the Brockville driver just before they began to deal with lapped traffic and was going away when the checkered flag fell. LaFrance settled for second, followed by Chris Herbison, Mark Hitchcock and Ben Tucker.
Moore took advantage of lap 7 restart to make the winning move in the 20 lap Sportsman main. Moore running fourth at the time jumped to the very outside of the race track as the top 3 cars battled for position, no one noticed the young Elgin driver go by and into the lead for good. Kyle Wilson was second in front of Rich Hall, Cole Dingwall and John Mulder.
Last year’s rookie champion Kees VanWinden continues to turn heads in the Novice division with another convincing feature win. Earl Simmons was second with early leader Robin Perrin, Dave Austin and Peter Stapper rounding out the fast five.
Danielle Legault was tops in the 10 lap rookie event winning a race long battle with Roch Aubin. Young Brad Kirkland was third. Next week at Brockville Ontario Speedway features another double header. Friday night will be fan appreciation night with admission just $5 and double features in Modifieds, Sportsman and Novice. The green flag drops at 7:30 pm. Sunday, July 7th will be the make up date for the Father’s Day Enduro with action getting underway at 2pm.
