JOHNSON, POTTER, STEFANSKI, RICKARD, AND WEBSTER COLLECT FEATURE WINS AT RANSOMVILLE
RANSOMVILLE, NY…Friday, July 6th, 2001…Primetyme Motorsports and Koeppen Farms sponsored last Fridays action at the big "R" which found Danny Johnson of Rochester, NY collect his third feature of the season aboard the Mighty Taco Modifieds. Johnson took the lead on lap 4 and held off challenges from Pete Bicknell during the middle stages of the event. With Johnson running the top groove and Bicknell the middle of the speedway, these two put on a great show before Johnson put some distance between himself and the second place runner.
Bicknell held on for the second place finish followed by Billy Krull who picked up his best finish of the season in third. Todd Burley rebounded from a early race incident for fourth while Rick Hoctor notched his best finish of the season in fifth. Heat winners were Don Spatarico and Rich Vinson. Finishing positions 3-10 found an additional $50 in their pay envelopes as Ransomville increased their modified purse starting last Friday night.
Mark Potter of Appleton captured his first of the season aboard the Queenston-Lewiston Duty Free Sportsman feature event. The caution filled event found Potter take the lead just before the half way point from rookie Dave Schulz to pick up his first win of the season. Schulz ended up suffering mechanical woes and a dismal finish as a result.
The event was filled with several caution periods…over half a dozen in total. Rob Kott, Jeff McGinnis, Don Martin, and Chad Brachmann rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Kott, Dave Nashwinter, and Brachmann.
In NAPA Prostock action the feature win went to defending track champion Pete Stefanski. Stefanski took the lead away from Steve Lewis on a late race restart. Stefanski then held off challenges from his brother Joe Stefanski on the final few circuits for his first win of the season. Stefanski was piloting the borrowed McCoy back up machine as he ran into troubles during warm-ups aboard his #20 entry.
Following Stefanski across the line were Joe Stefanski, Steve Devos, Steve Lewis, and Jason Boyle. Heat winners were Pat McCoy, Eric Greenlief, and Devos.
The twin Fish's Automotive Streetstock features were won by Dave Webster and Joe Rickard. Webster took the lead at the drop of the green flag aboard the first 15 lap event and was never seriously challenged. Following Webster across the line were Fred Srock, Wayne Close, Scott McEldowny, and Cory Sawyer.
The second Fish's Automotive Streetstock feature came down to the wire as Joe Rickard, Alex Morris, and Jerry Condren battled to the line. Rickard held on for his first win of the season followed by Morris, Condren, Roger Israel, and Derek Smith. Heat winners were Webster, Srock, and Randy Zimmerman.
