The Big guns were blazing again at Brockville

BROCKVILLE-The big guns were blazing on Friday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway. The four drivers who have been dominant forces in their respective divisions in 2001 all scored victories.

Defending Track Champ Lee Gill picked up his third straight victory and 5th of the year in the 30 lap Syracuse Qualifier for the Modifieds. Gill picked up the lead on the second lap from Ben Tucker who had the best time in qualifying and then led the distance in a caution filled affair that featured a full field of 24 small blocks. Chico Dingwall took a few shots at Gill on the numerous restarts but settled for second just a car length in front of Jeff Sykes. Stephane LaFrance wheeled his rebuilt TEO pro car to a fourth place finish with Mark Hitchcock rounding out the top 5.

Randy Gaudet scored another victory in the 20 lap Sportsman event. Gaudet who said after that his car wasn’t as good as it has been in past weeks still cruised to the win after picking up the top spot on a lap 10 restart. Adam Moore was a solid second in front of Joyceville teenager Kyle Wilson. Lance Willix and Kyle Dingwall were fourth and fifth respectively.

Randy Earl was a winner for the 6th time this year in the Pro Stock class. Earl started in 7th spot but had the lead by lap 2 and was never challenged from there in the 15 lap event. Denis Gauvreau won a photo finish for second place over Joey Ladouceur. Greg Hale and Todd Raabe continued their string of top 5 finishes as well.

Kees Van Winden continues to show the way in the Rookie class. Van Winden held off a determined Rosco Garreau to score another win. Roch Aubin was third in front of Don Hall and Jamie Eglinton.

The 15 lap Novice event was a wild and wacky affair with more than half the field involved in various incidents. John Mulder who started 3rd had the lead by the back straight on the first lap and overcame the numerous yellow flags for the victory. Shawn Hodge who also avoided the skirmishes by running up front was second with Roger Bushey, Tammy Jalbert and Charles Barkley making up the rest of the fast five.
