VONDOHREN GETS SECOND WIN OF THE SEASON, SEAN MICHEAL WINS

URC FEATURE AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA JUNE 9, 2001 . . . For the second time this

season current track NASCAR Modified point leader Craig

VonDohren was able to wheel the Mrs. T's Pierogies entry to a

win at Grandview Speedway. The victory came in the 30-lap

Jesse Baro Trucking NASCAR Modified feature race on Saturday

night and earned the Barto, PA racer $2,200.

In the companion feature the Bar's Leaks United Racing

Club sprint cars had Sean Michael taking his second win of

the season and his twenty second career victory in the 25-lap

feature. Michael was chased to the finish line by Mike

Haggenbottom.

The NASCAR Modified feature, 29 cars starting, saw Todd

Heydt get the first lap lead. On the second circuit of the

one-third-mile, clay banked Berks County oval, Glenn Strunk

had the Norm's Save Station entry in front of the pack. In

the first ten laps Strunk, without a win this season, held

off challenges by Brian Kressley. On the 11th lap Craig

VonDohren moved in to a challenging position. Strunk

performed well and held off the multi time champion for

several laps. However on the 16th circuit VonDohren chose

the second turn to take control of the race.

Once in front, the popular racer had things much his own

way as he was able to hold off challenges from Glenn Strunk

and Chip Slocum to win the feature and pick up $2200 for his

efforts. Second spot went to Glenn Strunk (Bechtelsville)

followed by Chip Slocum (Ewing Township, NJ), Doug Manmiller

(Sinking Spring) and Brian Kressley (New Tripoli).

Unofficially Bob Trapper earned the Timber Wolf Smokeless

Hard Charger award coming from 29th to 11th in the NASCAR

Modified feature race. That is worth an extra $200.

In the 25 lap main for the URC Bar's Leaks Sprint Series

competitors, part of the C&C Landscaping PA Point Series,

Jeff Busby was on top at the start and was the man to beat

for 10 laps. On a caution restart, after Greg Coverdale spun,

George Suprick got the top spot with Sean Michael (Allentown)

now "knocking on the door." At the 19 lap mark Sean Michael

put the B&K Leasing/Jim's Lettering/C&B Mushroom sprinter in

front of the pack and that is where it stayed for the final 6

laps.

However Mike Haggenbottom made a strong run for the top

spot and was closing on the leader in the final laps. The

Levittown, PA racer had to settle for second followed by

point leader Chris Coyle, George Suprick and Doug Emery.

Sixty one NASCAR Modifieds were in the competition area

with Barry Readinger, Craig VonDohren, Rick Schaffer, Jon

Kellner and Shawn Reimert taking the wins in qualifying

heats. The consolation races were won by Jeff Strunk, Meme

DeSantis and Terry Meitzler while the Automotive Machining

Services Cash Dash worth $350 was won by Jon Kellner. $100

donated by Kochel Equipment of Elverson was divided amongst

the 2nd through 5th place racers.

In the United Racing Club sprint qualifying heats, 40

sprinters in the pits, Danny Massey, George Suprick,Sean

Michael and Donnie Ennis were the winners. The C, moving the

top four finishers to the B Main, was won Trevor Lewis. And

the B Main moving four top finishers to the main event was

won by Donnie Kreitz Jr.
