NO 'PAINE' RELIEF IN SIGHT AT BLACK ROCK

DUNDEE, NY……..Steve Paine continues his run to the championship in the 358 Modifieds at the Black Rock Speedway with another win last Friday night. Dale Welty picked up his second win in a row in the PPG Super-Stocks, Steve Brace returned to victory lane after a long absence in the Regional International Pro-Trucks. In the NAPA 4 Cyl. Stocks, Joe Povoski and A Jay Potrzebowski were the big winners, and Josh Mills won his second in a row in the Black Rock Bandits.

The "Hurricane", Steve Paine re-took the point lead in the Modified division last Friday night at the Black Rock Speedway with another victory, while Charlie Donk finished fifth in a borrowed ride. Charlie Donk blew the motor in his own #99 during his heat event, and had to look for a ride for the feature. Brian Swarthout lent his #14 to Donk, but he had to start at the tail of the field. As was the case last week, yellow flag fever plagued the event for various spins and minor mishaps. Tim Sebring jumped out to the early lead, and he was battling in the early going with young talent, Alex Hoag. Paine was on the move quickly, as was Donk in the Swarthout 14. Hoag took the lead on a lap 8 re-start and was followed by Gil Tegg, Tim Sebring, and Steve Paine. By the half way mark, Paine had gotten around Sebring and Tegg, and set his sights on Hoag. The veteran and the youngster raced hard for the lead until Paine took over in turn three on lap 16. Shortly after the pass, Hoag quickly dropped off the pace, and eventually went to the pits with mechanical woes. Lap 18 saw another yellow flag, as Todd Henderson lost a wheel. This wheel rolled into the first turn where Dan Mathews hit it, and almost flipped his mount. On the re-start, Paine was able to hold off all challenges and take the win, and the point lead. Gil Tegg, was second, third was Tim Sebring, fourth went to Bryon Turner, and Charlie Donk in the Brian Swarthout #14 had the drive of the race, and finished fifth. Heats were won by, Todd Henderson, Tim Sebring, and Gil Tegg.

The yellow flag was out early in the PPG Super-Stock feature as well. Rob Conklin spun on the back straight on the opening lap, and this put Dave DuBois, and Rich Karlnoski together. These drivers were done early. As the race resumed, Larry Knowles was at the top of the field, and Chris McCann was right on his back bumper. Knowles and McCann swapped the lead back and forth, and while this was going on, Dale Welty had moved up to make it a three way race for the lead. At the half way mark, the running order was, McCann in the lead, and he was followed by Dale Welty, Larry Knowles, Dave Fultz, and Quinn Sutherland. One lap later, Welty took the lead. Chris McCann spun his mount on lap 15, and this put Dave Fultz in second. At the checkers, it was Welty in for the win, Fultz was second, third was Quinn Sutherland, fourth went to Kevin Chilson, and Chris Daugherty was fifth. Heats were won by, Welty, McCann, and Larry Knowles.

Steve Brace was back in victory lane in the Regional Pro-Trucks, and it had been a while since he had been there. It was sort of an up and down race for Brace. He took the lead on lap one with Jeff Barner and Tom Austin in tow. Austin took the lead on lap four and began to pull away. It looked like Austin's streak of bad luck had come to an end. That is until lap sixteen when a right rear tire blew, and his race was run. This gave the lead back to Brace and he was able to take the Sunrise Express back to victory lane. Finishing second was, Jeff Barner, third was Eddie Machuga, fourth went to Ron Divens and Fred Buckley was fifth. Heats were won by Ron Divens and Steve Brace.

In the NAPA 4 Cyl. Stocks, Joe Povoski continues his winning ways as he picked up win #8 on the season. He didn't take the lead until the last lap, but won the race by ¾ of a car length over Ray Hyer. Third was Alfred Clark, fourth was Karl Weichenthal, and Kenny Hunt was fifth. In the second 4 Cyl. Event, A Jay Potrzebowski picked up the exciting win over Eddie Crawford. These two raced hard for the last few laps of this event, that saw them trading paint more than once. Third went to Bob Stewart, fourth was Jason White and fifth was Serenity Sutherland. Heats were won by, Mike Jackson, Skip Dean, Kenny Hunt, and A Jay Potrzebowski.

Josh Mills grabbed his second win in as many weeks in the Black Rock Bandits in an exciting win over Jon Wallenbeck, Steven Ovens, Frank Guererri Jr., and Travis Berardo.

The Mid-State Antique Stock Cars were in competition, and Jeff Ackerman was the winner in the 50's class, Doc Smith won the 60's division, and Bob Williams was the 70's class winner.
