DANNY JOHNSON WINS BIG BLOCK MODIFIED SERIES RACE AT RANSOMVILLE

RANSOMVILLE, NY…July 11th, 2001…The brothers Johnson finished one-two in the Dynomax 100 an Advance Auto Parts big block Modified Super DIRT Series event last Wednesday night at Ransomville Speedway. Danny took the lead at the drop of the green and was never seriously challenged as he proceeded to lap all but the top eight competitors aboard his Sweeteners Plus Troyer chassis.

The top twelve re-drew on the front stretch for the Mighty Taco, Queenston-Lewiston Duty Free, and E-Z Oil sponsored event with Johnson coming up with the lucky pole position. It was all over from there as Johnson dominated the entire distance and captured the $6,000 payday. Alan Johnson came from the fourth position to finish second but was never able to close the straight away lead held by his brother.

Finishing in third was Pete Bicknell who was aboard his Friday night 358 modified. Bicknell proved that once the track slicked over, the small blocks were as competitive as the big blocks as he came from the eighth starting position. Billy Decker drove the only PMC chassis to the fourth position while Tim McCreadie rounded out the top five. The remainder of the field found nine Troyers, nine Teos, and nine Bicknells.

Heat winners included Kenny Tremont, Brett Hearn, and Danny Johnson. Taking the consi checkered was Billy Krull.

The Queenston-Lewiston Duty Free Sportsman victory went to Chad Brachmann. Brachmann is the current points leader and padded it slightly as he topped the field in the 20 lap event. Brachmann took the lead away from Scott George on lap 17 and held it the remaining three laps enroute to the checkered.

Dave Schulz led the field down for the green and took the lead over John Zimmerman and Bob Winters. Kevin Wills was on the move as he took over the third position on lap three. A caution for Brian Sage and Rob Kott slowed the pace just prior to lap five. The restart found Schulz out of shape and the entire field scrambling to get by. Unfortunately the cars of Adam Ferri, John Zimmerman, Randy Chrysler, Tim Jones, and Mark Potter were all caught up in the maylay.

Bob Winters inherited the lead on the restart with Wills in tow. Coming on strong was Scott George as he blasted into the lead. George would lead the feature event until lap 17 when Brachmann challenged for the lead. George battled hard but it was all for naught as Brachmann took the top spot and the victory. George finished in second followed by Don Martin, Wills, and Potter. Heat winners were Dave Nashwinter, Zimmerman, and George. Rob Kott won the Consi.
