DANNY JOHNSON, RANDY CHRYSLER, PAT MCCOY, JERRY CONDREN AND RICK GORHAM TAKE CHECKERS AT RANSOMVILLE
RANSOMVILLE, NY... Danny Johnson of Rochester, NY used a last lap pass on teammate Vic Coffey to claim his sixth 358 Modified feature win of the season at Ransomville. Driving his Napa/Speedway Park sponsored orange 27J, Johnson continued his winning ways as he dominates the DIRT 358 Modifieds this season.
Mark Sylvies led the early stages of the Don Davis Pontiac, Honda, GMC Truck sponsored event. Scott Wood took the lead from Sylvies for a couple of circuits before Coffey took the top spot on lap 12. Johnson was also on the move and took over the runner up position on lap 13. Coffey led several laps of the 30 lap feature that would be slowed several times for cautions. Johnson got alongside Coffey coming off turn two with two laps remaining just to find the yellow fly once again. The restart with one to go found Johnson all over the back end of the Coffey machine. Coffey gave up the top lane which he had used to keep Johnson at bay going into turn 1. Johnson took to his patented extreme top groove, taking the lead and the win. Coffey came home in second followed by Wood, Pete Bicknell, and Brian Stevens. Great to see Todd Burley back in competition aboard his familiar 89B. Heat winners were Wood and Sam Crogan.
Randy Chrysler of the Tuscarora Nation captured his second win of the season aboard the Sportsman class at the big "R". Driving his Randys Smoke Shop/Clarks Burgerhouse sponsored machine, Chrysler took the lead away from Wayne McKie on lap eleven for the win. Chrysler thanked his crew, family, sponsors, and new engine builder Gor-Den Automotive trackside.
McKie held on for a strong second followed by Curt Sherwood, Chad Brachmann, and Dean Ferri. Brachmann was forced to go back to his race shop after blowing the motor up in his primary car during heat action. Bringing out the back-up, Brachmann finished a fine fourth and extended his points lead over Stewart Friesen and Don Martin. Heat winners were Martin and Chrysler.
Collecting his first win aboard the Prostock ranks was Pat McCoy of Cambria, NY. McCoy took the lead away from Steve Miller on lap 11 and quickly distanced himself from the remainder of the field. Points leader Pete Stefanski advanced into the runner spot, passing three cars in the final five laps. Miller held on for third while Dan Shoop and Mark Schulz rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Shoop, Roger Chrysler, and Dave Williams.
The first twin StreetStock event was won by Jerry Condren. Leading all twelve laps, Condren picked up his second of the season in the caution free event. Alex Morris, Don Rappleyea, Mark Boyer, and Steve Coleman rounded out the top five.
Rick Gorham captured his first StreetStock feature of the season aboard the second Don Davis sponsored event. Gorham, who has only been campaigning for about four weeks now, took the lead at the drop of the green and held off challenged from Wayne Close in the late stages. Close came home in second followed by Steve Buzzard, Shawn Graham, and Ben Hornquist. Heat winners were Condren, Gorham, and Rappleyea.
