Kekich Scores First Ever, King First For Season At Sharon

Hartford(OH) - After five years of ups and downs Mike Kekich finally scores his
first ever Sprint car feature win, Rex King also followed suite in the V-8
Modifieds bringing home his first feature win for the season at Sharon. Russ
Dunn caulks up another win E-Mods as does Dwayne Clay in the Stock car
division, with Jason Dolich topping the Micro division.
As the Sunburst Environmental Sprints took the green, pole setter Mike Kekich
jumped to the point and never looked back taking the checker for his first
ever Sprint car feature. During victory lane ceremonies Kekich stated that
his crew were the ones who deserved all the credit for their dedication and
hard work over the years. The race for the bridesmaid position was the one to
watch as Marty Ling came from his 8th starting position to secure the runner
up spot for the fourth time. Rounding out the top five where Andy Priest,
Gary Edwards and Daryl Stimeling. Heat went to: Ling, Schrum.
The Gibson-Governor Insurance V-8 Modifieds came to the line with Randy
Snyder and Skip Moore leading the pack to the green. For the second week this
proved to be a flag to flag race with Rex King motoring from his 7th place
starting position to the point by the completion of lap one and continued to
dominate the entire event. Lou Blaney and Jim Weller, starting 10th and 11th
respectively worked their way into 2nd and 3rd . Holding down the fourth spot
found Jim Rasey who finished as he started. With his first top five was Skip
Moore. Heat winners: Blaney, King.
The Coy Bros. Trucking E-Mods. proved that they can complete a full 15 lap
feature. Taking the green where Arlan Coy and Scott Stiffler with Russ Dunn
capturing the lead during the first curcuit. Dunn then held off several
challenges from Stiffler with Stiffler making a bonzi move in turns 3 and 4
the gain control. Stiffler then continued to show the way for the next 9 laps
when on the last lap and the last turn Dunn returned the favor passing
Stiffler at the finish line to notch yet another feature win. Jeff Rudrick,
Scott Jones, Shawn Domhoff completed the top five. Heat winners: Dunn,
Robinson.
Bringing the Burghill Auto Salvage Stock Cars to the start found current
point leader Dwayne Clay and Russ Kapalin pacing the field to the start. Clay
moved immediately into the lead as Kapalin suffered a flat tire bringing the
yellow out on the first lap. As the field restarted double file Clay showed
that he was a force to be reckoned with as Steve D'Apolito following a close
second. But by lap 9 Dave Ferringer coming from his 9th starting spot moved
past D'Apolito to put constant pressure on Clay only lose out by about a half
a car length at the finish. Third place found D'Apolito, with Joe Porter and
Dave Willoughby finishing fifth. Heat winners: Robinson, Ferringer, Porter.
Dash winner: Ferringer
The guest division of the evening was the Snap on tools Micro Sprints
which after suffering several cautions and 2 red flags found Jason Dolich
taking the checker from his 7th starting position. Chad Reitz, from 11th to
second. Third found John King, with fourth place going to Rich Peters and
Chris Dye sliding into the fifth spot. Heat winners: Reitz, Riddle.

Sportsman Modifieds as our guest division and Bike Races and V-8 Modified
Dash.
Coming to the Speedway on September 1st and 2nd will be the 21st Annual
Sharon Nationals with V-8 Modifieds and Stock Cars.

The four divisions of racing plus special event classes will continue
through August with the Autograph night for the E-Mods being rescheduled for
June 22nd. Rounding out the 2001 season will be the 21st Annual Sharon
Nationals held Labor day weekend September 1st and 2nd.
Admission prices for Friday Night's Mightiest shows with the Grandstand
Adult ticket of $10.00, Juniors (13-16) $5.00, Kids 12 and under FREE!, and
with FAMILY PASS consisting of 2 adults and up to 4 children (16 and under)
for $25.00. Pit Gate admission remains at $20.00. Regular shows only. Gates
open at 5:30 with racing at 7:30.
