Mott, Donk, And Karlnoski Win At Black Rock

DUNDEE, N.Y. - Phil Mott survived a caution filled 20 A-Main to pull down the

win in the Empire Super-Sprints. Charlie Donk dominated the action in the 358

Modifieds, while Rich Karlnoski also survived a crash filled event to win the

PPG Super-Stock feature. Scott Yaw and Alfie Clark were winners in the NAPA 4

Cyl. Stocks.

Phil Mott had a good night at the Black Rock Speedway last Friday night. He

won the Dash for Cash, started on the pole for the ESS 20 lap A-Main, and led

every lap. Sounds simple, right. It wasn't, as this feature event was strewn

with yellow flags through out the event. The first one came on the opening

lap on the back straight as Bill Coffey got tangled up with a couple of other

cars and flopped his #13 on it's side. AS the race was re-started the yellow

lights were on again, this time for a Dick Spadaro spin in turn two. Two

yellows, no laps complete. When the green came out again, Phil Mott jumped

out to the early lead with Rich Wood in hot pursuit. The green didn't stay

out long, as young hot shoe, Kyle Drum hit the fourth turn wall and folded up

the front end of the Speed Racer 47. When green waved again, it was Mott

still on top of the field with Wood a tight second with Justin Barger third.

Lance Yonge was on his way to the front of the field from his 20th starting

spot, and was 10th by lap 6. At the half way mark, Mott was still the leader

and was followed by, Rich Wood, Justin Barger, Bobby Podolak, and Tim

Zimbardi. Bobby Podolak's fine run ended early as his mount came to a stop on

lap 17 in turns 3 and 4. When the checkers finally flew it was Phil Mott

taking the win, Justin Barger was second, third was Tim Zimbardi, fourth was

Randy Years, and Lance Yonge filled out the top five. Heats were won by, Rich

Wood, Kyle Drum, and Tim Zimbardi. Mott won the Dash for Cash. Ryan Coniam

took the C-Main, and Bill Coffey took the B-Main.

Twenty-two 358Modifieds came to Tommy Burton's green flag for the 25 lap

feature event with Ron White and Charlie Donk on the front row in the heads

up start. Donk was the early leader, and he began to pull away early. Todd

Henderson and Ron White battled for second spot in the opening laps. But

White's bad luck continues as he got together with Aaron Jacobus in turn four

on lap six. The re-start saw Donk pull away once again. John Moravec was on

the move through the field and was in the runner-up position by the halfway

mark. Todd Henderson was third, Steve Mandell fourth and Steve Grey filled

out the top five. Charlie Donk continued his dominance right to the checkered

flag. John Moravec got second, third was Todd Henderson, Alex Hoag got fourth

and Frank Dunning filled out the top five. Heats were won by, Charlie Donk

and Ron White.

Rich Karlnoski picked up his second win of the season in the PPG

Super-Stocks, and it was a matter of survival. Larry Knowles was the early

leader with Mike Carapella and Kevin Chilson close behind. Dale Welty spun

his 1-2-3 in turn four on the fourth lap; this brought out the yellow flag.

On the re-start, Kevin Chilson charged into the lead. At this time Dave

DuBois and John Sutryk both headed pitside. At the half waypoint it was

Chilson with the lead, Larry Knowles second, third was Eddie Mills, Carl

Cleveland and Dave Fultz filled out the top five. Lap 12 saw Knowles spin in

turn two, and the next lap, Carl Cleveland took his 22 to the pits with a

flat tire. This moved Rich Karlnoski up to second. On lap 16 leader Kevin

Chilson's engine went sour, and Karlnoski took the lead and went on for the

win. Alan Crooker got up for second, third was Quinn Sutherland, fourth was

Mike Carapella, and Larry Knowles got back up to fifth. With his 8th place

finish, Dave Fultz was crowned the 2001 track Champion in the PPG

Super-Stocks. Heats were won by, Larry Knowles and Dale Welty.

In the first of two features for the NAPA 4 Cyl. Stocks, Scott Yaw picked

up the win over a fast closing Joe Povoski, Todd Stone was third, Mike Hughey

fourth and Eddie Crawford filled out the top five.

In the second feature, Alfie Clark picked up his first ever win in the

division. Willy Grant jr., was second, third was Karl Weichenthal, fourth

went to Tim Povoski, and Donnie Smith filled out the top five. Heats were won

by, Karl Weichenthal, Todd Stone, Brian Conley, and Brandon Smith.
