AARON JACOBUS TAKES FIRST MOD WIN AT BLACK ROCK

DUNDEE, NY…….Aaron Jacobus out of Lindley, N.Y., driving his Met Life #2 358 Modified, took his first ever win at the Black Rock Speedway last Friday night.

Dave Fultz, out of Dundee, N.Y. took a step closer to defending his track championship in the PPG Super-Stocks by taking another win in the division. Tommy Austin finally got the monkey off his back, and took his second win of the season in the Regional Pro-Trucks. In 4 Cyl. Stock racing, Phil Yaw took the win in the first of 2 features in this division, driving the Mark Wallenbeck #24X, while Ryan Davenport took his first win at Black Rock in the second feature. In Black Rock Bandits racing, Ray Speicher continues to rack up the points, as he took another exciting win.

Trouble started early in the Modified main, as on lap 2, inside turn 4 looked like a parking lot. Fran Hilton in his 3A got turned around with Donnie Lawson, Bryon Turner, Ken Johnson, and high point man Steve Paine was also involved. He went to the pits and had some work done on the right front suspension of the 7x. He was able to return before the race went back to green flag conditions. As the race resumed, Ronnie White took the early lead, but was quickly over taken by the #2 of Aaron Jacobus. He was followed by White, Mike Jackson, Gil Tegg, and Derrick Podsaiadlo. Once out in front, Jacobus was able to pull away from the rest of the field, while Ron White and Mike Jackson battled for second and third. At the half way point Jacobus was still on the point followed by Ron White Mike Jackson, John Moravec, and Brian Swarthout. Laps 16 and 17 saw two yellow flags for spins by Jim Hull and Byron Turner. Jacobus was still in front of the field, but by lap 18 the battle for second was now between Ron White and John Moravec. Lapp 22 saw another yellow flag, this time for a slowing Ron White. On the re-start, Moravec and Alex Hoag took off in hot pursuit of Jacobus. Hoag got around Moravec, and the two youngsters raced hard to the checkers. Jacobus came across the line first, Hoag was second, John Moravec was third, fourth went to Mike Jackson and Gil Tegg Jr. was fifth. Heats went to, Tegg, Jacobus and Hoag, while the B-Main went to Bryon Turner.

In the PPG Super-Stocks, there was big news early, as Dale Welty's 1-2-3 stopped on the back stretch on the opening lap. He was done for the night. When the green flag came back out, Sparky Hills and Chris McCann battled for the early lead. There was a couple of cars on the move, as Dave Fultz was up to fifth, and Alan Crooker moved in to second by lap 5. Lap six saw the yellow flag out for a Quinn Sutherland spin in turn one. On the re-start, Dave Fultz took the lead, and he and Alan Crooker hooked up in a race for the lead. At the half way mark, Fultz was still in front, and he was being followed by Alan Crooker, Carl Cleveland, Sparky Hills, and Rich Karlnoski. A couple of laps later, Fultz had an anxious moment as he and the lapped car of Doug McCann made contact, Fultz was able to save it and continue in the lead. Lap 14 saw Crooker once again saw his chances at victory snatched away, this time it was a flat tire on the #32. This put Carl Cleveland in second. But, once again, this was to be Dave Fultz's night as he took the popular win. Cleveland held on for second, third was Rich Karlnoski, fourth went to Bill Miller, and Fred Buckley filled out the top five. Heats were won by, Dave Fultz and Dale Welty.

Tommy Austin picked up his second win of the season in the Regional Pro-Trucks. His first win came all the way back on opening day in April! He has had a fast truck all year, but has had little things keep him out of the winner's circle. He was not to be denied on this night, as he took the lead at the half way point after a fierce battle with Don Divens. It was tight race all the way with the top five bunched together and racing hard. Austin had Don Divens, Ron Divens, Steve Brace and Eddie Machuga breathing down his neck for most of the distance. As the checkers were in the air, it was Austin across the line first, Don Divens held on for second, third was Eddie Machuga, Steve Brace got fourth, and Keith Austin continues his great runs of late with a fifth place finish. Heats were won by, Don Divens and Tommy Austin.

In 4 Cyl. Stock racing Phil Yaw picked up the win in the first of two features after an exciting race to the wire with Karl Weichenthal Terry Povoski finished third, Jack Ayres was fourth, and Ray Hyer filled out the top five. In the second feature, Ryan Davenport picked up his first win. He had to work hard for it though, as rookie, Steven Ovens pressured him all the way to the checkers for a very close finish. Eddie Crawford was third at the line, fourth was Mike Buchanan, and Jason White filled out the top five. Heat winners were, Willy Grant Jr., Phil Yaw, Eddie Crawford, and Ryan Davenport.

Ray Speicher took another win in the Black Rock Bandits, as he snatched the win away from Cody Marshall on the last lap in heavy traffic. Marshall held on for second. Third was Josh Smith, fourth went to Derek Mills, and Trevor Sutherland rounded out the top five.

The Big Rig One on Ones were held on this night, and "Wild" Willy Grant took this popular event for the second year in a row. He took home $1,000 for the victory over Tim Gibson.
