HEARN DRIVES THRU FIELD FOR FOURTH WIN OF THE YEAR

WEST LEBANON, NY -6/14/97... Brett Hearn came from the rar of the

field Saturday night for his fourth win of 1997 at the

Valley. Hearn was involved in an early race incident,

that forced him to the tail end of the field. Chris

Kokosa ended George Marcus's win streak in the sportsman

division, by picking up his first win of the year.

Trouble started before the modifieds even

completed a lap in their McDonalds 30-lap feature.

Several cars in the middle of the pack were involved,

including Brett Hearn and Rich Ricci Jr. This would put

Hearn and Ricci at the back of the pack. Steve Devine

would take the lead on the restart, but caution would

slow the field again with just one lap completed. John

Hankamp and Billy Decker got hooked together. While

their race cars were hooked together Decker was hit from

behind while the two cars were still connected.

Devine would remain out front, while Kenny

Tremont had worked his way up to fifth. By lap two,

Bobby Albert was up to fifth and Tremont was up to

fourth. A good race between Guy Sheldon and Garry Waters

for second occurred on lap four. Devine continued to

pull away, opening up twenty car lengths on second place

Sheldon by lap seven.

Towards the middle of the pack, Hearn had worked

his way up to thirteenth by lap eight. A good side by

side battle for fourth between Garry Waters and Bobby

Albert happened on lap nine. Albert would come away with

the position. Eddie Marshall had a good run goind, and

found himself fifth by lap eleven. The yellow would fly

again on lap eleven. Billy Decker was caught up in the

wreck and would retire to the pits for the evening.

The restart saw Albert grab second and Marshall

take third. Marshall would rocket passed the top two

cars to grab first on lap 13. Lap 14 would see Hearn up

to the sixth spot. Tremont would grab third. Just before

halfway Hearn was able to move up to the third spot,

with Marshall first and Tremont second. Hearn grabbed

second away from Tremont on lap 17. Donnie Corellis had

his best run of the season going. He passed Tremont for

third on lap 18.

A restart on lap 19 allowed Hearn to take the

first spot away from Marshall. The fifth spot saw a good

racebetween Albert and Chris Moore on lap 20. The top

four cars would break away from the rest of the field

by lap 21. Hearn would open a half-straightaway lead by

lap 23. Hearn would hit lapped traffic by lap 26. The

only battle for posistion was fifth still, between Moore

and Albert.

Hearn finished well ahead of second place

Marshall. Corellis was third, Tremont fourth, and Bobby

Albert rounded out the top five.

MODIFIED HEAT WINNERS: DEVINE, RICCI, TREMONT

The 20-lap sportsman feature was not able to get

off to a good start. The yellow came out on laps one,

two and three. dave Sanchez took command of the event

early and would hold the top spot for half of the event.

Chris Kokosa and Bob Hackel Jr. raced side by side for

the third spot on lap four. George Marcus had moved up

to fifth by lap five. Kokosa would grab second on the

sixth circuit.

The last yellow of the event came out on lap

seven. Kokosa, Sanchez, McWhirt, Marcus and Hackel. The

remainder of the event went clean and green. Marcus

would grab third from Butch McWhirt on lap 13. Kokosa

opened up an advantage of twenty cars up front. Marcus

would move up to second and set his sights on Kokosa.

While marcus tried to run down Kokosa, McWhirt

was challenging Sanchez for third. Marcus ran out of

laps to try and catch Kokosa. Kokosa won easily by

twenty car lengths over Marcus. Sanchez had a fine

finish in third, McWhirt was fourth and Jeff Cassidy

roubded out the top five spots.

Robbie Speed looked like the man to beat in the

early portions of the 20-lap Street Stock feature. Speed

opened up a half a straightaway over Adam Haas. Dave

Streibel was third. Good battles for the seventh and

eigth spots, while the top three checked out from the

rest of the field. By the tenth lap Haas was able to run

down Speed and would battle him for the top spot on lap

eleven. A yellow on lap 13 with several of the top ten

involved allowd Jim Langenback to move up to third.

Haas would grab the lead from Speed on the

ensuing restart. Langenback would try to pass Speed for

the second spot with four laps remaining. Haas came home

the victor with Speed second, and Langenback third.

Anthony Markou picked up the win in the IMCA Modifieds.

A good crowd on hand as Lebanon Valley Speedway

celebrated it's 45th anniversary. As part of the nights

celebration the original flagger, Ted Ryan was on the

flag stand to flag the modified feature.

Ronald McDonald was also on hand for the kids,

as the night was sponsored by McDonalds.
